Senate Resolution 8

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE DEDICATED SERVICE OF MRS. PEGGY J. CALDWELL, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MISSISSIPPI COUNSELING ASSOCIATION, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Peggy J. Caldwell organized the Pine Belt Counseling Region group in 1976 and served in various offices of the Mississippi Counseling Association, becoming its Executive Director in 2000; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Caldwell received the regional and state Mississippi Counseling Association Career Contributor Award in 1997; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Caldwell assisted with the development of guidance curriculum, advised and provided crisis intervention training throughout Mississippi, and served the American Counseling Association as a member of the National Crisis Task Force Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Caldwell worked side by side with many state agencies and organizations, including the Mississippi Department of Education, to enhance the success of Mississippi students and bring public awareness to the Mississippi legislators of the crucial role of counselors in our schools and clinical settings; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Caldwell's greatest legacy will be the individual lives touched through the personal counseling she provided to students, teachers and coastal residents after Hurricane Katrina.  Her ability to calm the fears and provide a sense of hope was demonstrated in the more than 50 days of personal time spent in schools in the coastal area and Pine Belt areas in the months following Katrina:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and acknowledge the dedicated service of Mrs. Peggy J. Caldwell for the years of dedication she has given to the youth and adults in our state to aid them in becoming happy, well-adjusted and productive citizens, and extend to her and her family the best wishes of the Senate on the occasion of her retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Peggy J. Caldwell and forwarded to the Mississippi Counseling Association, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
