A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL "LADY MUSTANGS" AND HEAD COACH ANNA JACKSON FOR WINNING THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR EXCELLENT 2006-2007 SEASON WHICH INCLUDED THE MOST VICTORIES IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

     WHEREAS, the tradition-rich Murrah High School "Lady Mustangs" made history when they recorded the 37th victory of the season, the most in school annals.  Murrah used a quick 7-minute third-quarter outburst to dismantle Coldwater 59-39 in the semifinals of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Grand Slam before an announced crowd of 1,673 at BancorpSouth Arena in Tupelo.  This was the Lady Mustangs' 21st straight victory; and

     WHEREAS, Murrah, No. 1 in The Clarion-Ledger Super 10 and No. 14 in the nation by USA Today, faced No. 2 Gentry (39-0) in the title game, but fell short and ended the 2006-2007 season with an impressive record of 32-2; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Anna V. Jackson won her 600th game November 9, 2006.  Her career record is 634-163, and she has won 7 Class 5A State Titles; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs' tournament record is as follows:  participated in the Sharp Impression Tournament in Bossier City, Louisiana; JPS/Pepsi Champions; Division 4-5A Champions; North State 5A Champions; and State 5A Champions; and

     WHEREAS, the following team members received individual honors:  Brandi Simmons:  All-Division 4-5A, All-JPS/Pepsi and All-State 5A; Tanecka Carey:  All-Division 4-5A, All-JPS/Pepsi and All-State 5A; LaShondra Barrett:  Dandy Dozen, MVP JPS/Pepsi Tournament; MVP Division 4-5A Tournament and All-State 5A; and Janice Okeke received the Cellular South Scholar Athlete Award, presented at the State Tournament; and

     WHEREAS, the 2006-2007 Lady Mustangs team roster is as follows:  Lashondra Barrett (11), Jordan Henley (11), Brandi Simmons (10), Madison Nevels (10), Kierra Dampier (10), Chastidy McGee (9), Janice Okeke (11), Brittny Tucker (12), Lindsey Allen (12), LaTasha Robinson (11), Sarah Crisler (10), Candanee Foster (9), Alicia Steele (10), Kottia White (12), Rashida Wilson (12) and Tanecka Carey (10); Managers:  Anika Stamps; Tyeshia Spann; Ashley Trussell; Tyler Gibson; and Gwen Davis; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Anna V. Jackson and Assistant Coaches Dakedreon Lampkin and Frank Ward made the following remarks about this championship season:  "The Lady Mustangs are a very young, talented team and played a very tough schedule -- most of the games were played on the road.  We ended the season ranked No. 1 in the state, No. 16 in the nation and in the final The Clarion-Ledger poll was ranked No. 2 in the state"; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special achievement of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Murrah High School "Lady Mustangs" and Head Coach Anna V. Jackson for winning the Class 5A State Championship and for their excellent 2006-2007 season which included the most victories in school history, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature on their future athletic and academic successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Anna Jackson and Principal Roy Brookshire for the team, be forwarded to the Jackson Municipal Separate School District Board of Trustees and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
