A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LOU WEDDINGTON HART, 9-TIME STATE AMATEUR CHAMPION GOLFER FROM MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HER INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI SPORTS HALL OF FAME, CLASS OF 2007.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled the Class of 2007, which features Lou Hart from Meridian, Mississippi, a 9-time State Amateur Golf Champion; and

     WHEREAS, Lou Weddington Hart is the daughter of Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame member H.G. Weddington, who was inducted in 1983.  Together, they represent the first father-daughter inductees in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, Lou has won over 100 invitational, four-ball, and scramble golf tournaments all across the Southeast United States.  She was a member of the first-ever men's golf team at Meridian Community College, a team she coached until 2006; and

     WHEREAS, Hart has won more Mississippi Women's Golf Association State Amateur titles (9) than any other female player in state history, including Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame members Mary Mills and Agnes Fitzhugh, who each won eight state women's amateurs; and

     WHEREAS, Lou made state history by playing on the men's team at Meridian Community College because ladies golf was not offered at that time by most JUCOs Colleges and senior colleges; and

     WHEREAS, her athletic achievements are almost too numerous to mention:

     ·  MS Senior Women's Amateur Champion, MWGA, 2006;

     ·  State Amateur Runner-up, MS Women's Golf Association,          2005;

     ·  Runner-up, MS Women's Senior Amateur, MWGA, 2004;

     ·  USGA Senior Women's Amateur, 6th place after 36 holes           qualifying, 2003;

     ·  MS Senior Women's Amateur Champion, MWGA, 2002;

     ·  Charter member of the Meridian CC Athletic Hall of Fame,          2002;

     ·  Head Coach, Meridian CC men's golf team, 1998 to 2006;

     ·  Coached Meridian CC team to championship and runner-up              finish in NJCAA National Championships;

     ·  Coached Meridian CC to 6 NJCAA Region 23 titles;

     ·  Coached Meridian CC to 2 MACJC State Championships;

     ·  Coached 12 NJCAA All-Americans including 6 first team          honorees and one player who has been inducted into the              NJCAA  Sports Hall of Fame;

     ·  Coached 4 NJCAA Academic All-Americans;

     ·  Runner-up to Cissye Gallagher, MWGA State Amateur,                   Hattiesburg, MS 1994;

     ·  Medalist in qualifying round, USGA Women's Mid-Amateur,

        1991;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion, Diamondhead, MS, 1990;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion, Sunkist CC, 1989;

     ·  Runner-up to Cissye Meeks, MWGA State Amateur, Columbus,              MS, 1987;

     ·  Medalist, qualifying round, USGA Women's Mid-Amateur,          1987;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion, Colonial CC, Jackson, MS,              1984;

     ·  Runner-up to Danelle Bradford, MWGA State Amateur,                   Senatobia, MS, 1981;

     ·  Runner-up to Brenda Pictor, MWGA State Amateur, Sunkist,              1980;

     ·  Qualified for USGA National Amateur, 1979;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion, Corinth, MS, 1978;

     ·  Quarterfinalist Women's Southern Amateur, 1978;

     ·  Runner-up to Helen Stodghill, MWGA State Amateur,                    Vicksburg, MS, 1977;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion, Meridian, MS, 1976;

     ·  Runner-up to Harriet Cauthen, MWGA State Amateur,                   Diamondhead, MS, 1974;

     ·  Member of Florida State Women's Golf Team, played in NCAA         Championship individual medalist tournament, 1974;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion at Tupelo, MS, 1973;

     ·  Member of Florida State Women's Golf Team, 1973;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion at Brookwood CC, 1972;

     ·  Member of Meridian CC men's golf team that won the State              JUCO Golf Championship, 1972;

     ·  Received H. M. Ivy Award, the highest honor a Meridian CC         Student could receive, 1972;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion at Hickory Hills CC, 1971;

     ·  Member of Meridian CC men's golf team, 1971;

     ·  MWGA State Amateur Champion at Greenville CC, 1970;

     ·  9-time member of MS team participating in Southeastern              Women's Amateur Team Championship, 1970 to present date;        and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding athlete who has brought honor to her community, college and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Lou Weddington Hart, 9-time State Amateur Champion Golfer from Meridian, Mississippi, upon her induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2007, and wish her and her family continued success in all their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Lou Hart at induction ceremonies on July 27-28, 2007, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
