A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING TRISTAN CALDWELL ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2006 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI BELLSOUTH MALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Tristan Caldwell, age 10, of Brandon, Mississippi, was selected as the 2006 State Games of Mississippi BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the award seeks to honor those athletes who personify the ideals of the State Games movement, such as participation, sportsmanship, achievement, effort and positive attitude; and

     WHEREAS, Tristan Caldwell has participated in the State Games of Mississippi for the past two years.  During the 2005 and 2006 State Games of Mississippi, he has displayed great knowledge, skills and talents for a competitor of his age; and

     WHEREAS, his enthusiasm and respect for the sport of Martial Arts impresses all the judges.  As with all the State Games competitors, it is known that Tristan would be hard to beat in any competition.  His attitude and dedication has enabled him to win medals at both the State Games of Mississippi and the State Games of America with pride.  Tristan has won four Gold Medals in weapons, kata, kumite (kumatee), and board breaking in both 2005 and 2006 State Games of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, while competing in the State Games of America in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2005, Tristan won two Gold Medals in weapons and kata and won a Bronze Medal in kumite.  Tristan's other achievements are:

     ·  Mississippi Karate Association (MSA) 2004 State Champion in kata, 1st runner-up in kumite;

     ·  2006 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Double State Champion, Gold Medals in kata and weapons, Bronze Medal in kumite;

     ·  2006 AAU Southern Regional National Qualifier, Gold Medal in kata, Silver Medal in kumite and Bronze Medal in weapons;

     · 2006 MKA Double or Triple State Champion, Tristan is the Double State Champion in kata and weapons and kumite is still to be determined; and

     WHEREAS, his Martial Arts Warrior spirit reflects great pride upon himself, his family, his teachers and the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Tristan demonstrates the true spirit of the State Games of Mississippi, as he is committed to doing his best, enjoys the competition and has respect for the athletes, volunteers and staff who work, plan and implement this annual classic; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize and commend this young amateur athlete who has brought honor to his community and to his state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Tristan Caldwell on being selected as the 2006 State Games of Mississippi BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year and express our heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Tristan Caldwell and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
