A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2006 SOUTHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL "CHARGERS" GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND COACH OF THE YEAR ALLISON BURCHYETT FOR WINNING THE CLASS II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR A PERFECT SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the 2006 edition of the Southaven High School "Chargers" Girls Volleyball Team completed a memorable season with a perfect 45-0 record and the Class II State Championship, defeating Oak Grove at the State Finals at Madison Central High School on October 14, 2006; and

     WHEREAS, this was the Chargers fifth consecutive trip to the State's Final Four; and

     WHEREAS, the Chargers defeated quality teams from Wingfield, Clinton, Olive Branch and Oak Grove in the State Playoffs; and

     WHEREAS, Chargers' Head Coach Allison Burchyett was named "Coach of the Year" for coaching the team to its perfect season.   Coach Burchyett has coached the Chargers to an overall record of 172-33 during her 5-year career at Southaven High School; and

     WHEREAS, special honors went to Senior Liz Crider who led the team to its 45-0 record and State Title.  The outside hitter was selected the MVP of the Arkansas State University Playday tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the State Championships.  She was the DeSoto Appeal Volleyball Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, and was named Mississippi's Gatorade Player of the Year.  The 5-foot-9 Senior recorded 275 digs, 65 aces and 27 blocks in leading the Lady Chargers to a 45-0 record and the Class II State Championship.  Liz is the second Southaven player to win the honor, joining Jamie Cross (2000-2001); and

     WHEREAS, the following players made the 2006 Shelby Suburban Team:  Mollee Williams, Senior; AC Rodriquez, Senior; Liz Crider, Senior; Kristen Coleman, Senior; Britney Wilburn, Junior; and

     WHEREAS, the Chargers won the MBA Classic Tourney, the Southaven Tournament and the Arkansas State Tournament on its way to the State Playoffs and State Final Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the team roster is as follows:  Kristen Coleman, Senior; Liz Crider, Senior; Megan Gard, Senior; Katie Johnston, Senior; Carrie Mills, Senior; AC Rodriguez, Senior; Katie Williams, Senior; Mollee Williams, Senior; Kayla Blaylock, Junior; Angela Carden, Junior; Britney Wilburn, Junior; Elizabeth Sherard, Junior; Charquita Anderson, Sophomore; Stephanie Crider, Sophomore; Ashley Cunningham, Sophomore; Hannah Faulkner, Sophomore; Shanequa Grisby, Sophomore; Michelle James, Sophomore; Shawna McClure, Sophomore; Kayla Wilson, Sophomore; Meaghan Couture, Freshman; Sheri Eubanks, Freshman; Taylor Miller, Freshman; Jordan Shaner, Freshman; Blake Miller, Freshman; and Nikki Story, Freshman.  The Managers are Ariel Smith and Mary Walker; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this singular achievement by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2006 Southaven High School "Chargers" Girls Volleyball Team and Coach of the Year Allison Burchyett for winning the Class II State Championship and for their perfect 2006 season, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Burchyett and the Principal of Southaven High School for the team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
