AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE IMPOSITION OF A $1 SURCHARGE ON ALL TRAFFIC TICKETS ISSUED IN CERTAIN MUNICIPALITIES TO FUND COMPUTERIZED CRIME PREVENTION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  In addition to any other monetary penalties and other penalties imposed by law, a municipality having a population of one hundred fifty thousand (150,000) or more, according to the most recent federal decennial census, may assess an additional surcharge in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) for each violation of Title 63 and offenses related to vehicular parking or registration.  The proceeds from the surcharge shall be dedicated to the use of the municipal police department solely to offset the cost of implementation of certain computerized crime prevention measures and the equipment necessary therefor.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall be codified in Title 63, Chapter 9, Mississippi Code of 1972, relating to traffic violations procedure.

      SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
