Senate Bill 2709

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 41-109-5, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE TASK FORCE SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO MAKE A REPORT TO THE 2008 REGULAR SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE; TO AMEND SECTION 41-109-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO EXTEND THE AUTOMATIC REPEALER ON THE TASK FORCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 41-109-5, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

41-109-5. The Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force shall:

(a) Develop a plan to educate health care professionals about the advantages and methods of early screening, diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease and its complications based on the K/DOQI Clinical Practice Guidelines for Chronic Kidney Disease or other medically recognized clinical practice guidelines and develop a plan to educate health care professionals about the advantages of end stage renal disease (ESRD) modality education;

(b) Make recommendations on the implementation of a cost-effective plan for that early screening, diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease for the state's population; and

(c) Issue a report to the membership of the House Public Health and Human Services Committee and the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee before the 2008 Session of the Mississippi Legislature.

SECTION 2. Section 41-109-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

41-109-7. This act shall stand repealed on July 1, 2009.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
