AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 99-35-101, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT APPEALS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED WHEN A DEFENDANT ENTERS A PLEA OF GUILTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 99-35-101, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     99-35-101.  Any person convicted of an offense in a circuit court may appeal to the Supreme Court, provided, however, an appeal from either a conviction or sentence from the circuit court to the Supreme Court shall not be allowed in any case where the defendant enters a plea of guilty and is sentenced.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
