Senate Bill 2259

AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO EDWARD CARTER, SR., OF CLAIBORNE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored to Edward Carter, Sr., of Claiborne County, Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector as a result of his conviction of the crime of embezzlement in 1998 in Claiborne County, Mississippi, and who was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the custody of the Department of Corrections with four (4) years suspended and four (4) years on probation.  He was released on April 9, 1999, on expiration of sentence and placed on probation, and was discharged on April 11, 2003.  The Legislature is informed that he has since conducted himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
