AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION TO REQUIRE ELECTRIC UTILITIES TO PROVIDE FOR NET ENERGY METERING AND TO GIVE A CREDIT TO ANY CUSTOMER WHO GENERATES ELECTRICITY FOR USE AT HIS RESIDENCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Public Service Commission shall require every electric utility in the state to provide for net energy metering and to give a credit to any customer who generates electricity for use at his residence.  The utility shall measure the net energy produced or consumed on a monthly basis, in accordance with normal metering practices.  The kilowatt hour credit shall appear on the customer's next monthly bill.

     (2)  The Public Service Commission is authorized to adopt any rules and regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this act.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
