House Resolution 128

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE ERIC ROBINSON FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Eric Robinson, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make 2007 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Eric Robinson began his legislative service in 1993 after edging out a field of 11 candidates by the citizens of District 84, which is composed of parts of Clarke, Jasper, Lauderdale and Newton Counties; and

     WHEREAS, he has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as Chairman of  the House Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee and as a member of Hurricane Recovery, Insurance, Judiciary B, Local and Private Legislation, Select Committee on Accessible and Affordable Medical Malpractice Insurance and Ways and Means Committees; and

     WHEREAS, born December 7, 1949, in Mobile, Alabama, Representative Eric Robinson moved to Clarke County as a one-year-old and grew up the son of merchant and entrepreneur parents, Glynn and Gertie Bell Robinson, and after graduating from high school, he attended Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi and served six years in the 186th Air National Guard; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure as Chairman of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, he has developed a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable people in that area and is considered a champion for parks and our state's great natural resources; and

     WHEREAS, like all champions, he has been honored for his efforts by many organizations, including the Mississippi Firefighters Association for coauthoring legislation to put a fire truck in each supervisors district in every Mississippi county, in addition to being recognized by Right-to-Life proponents for his position and legislation on pro-life issues; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the years, Representative Robinson has utilized his leadership skills in the community as a former member of the Board of Aldermen for the City of Quitman, member of the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce, former insurance agent, broker and homebuilder, member of the Quitman JayCee's, Quitman Small Business Association, NRA, former appointee by President Ronald Reagan to the Selective Service System Board and presently as a tree farmer and landlord; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Robinson is a strong man of faith who is an active member of Quitman First Baptist Church, who has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his family, wife, Teresa Irby Robinson; children, Benjamin Eric Robinson, Jr., and Brandi Nicole Robinson Kennedy; grandchildren, Elijah and John Carter; and sisters, Ramona, Rebecca and Deborah; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Eric Robinson for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Eric Robinson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
