House Resolution 120

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE JAMES "JAMIE" R. FRANKS, JR., FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives will lose a friend and valued ally when Representative James "Jamie" R. Franks, Jr., retires after this 2007 legislative term; and

     WHEREAS, at age 34, this Mooreville, Mississippi, resident has served in the House of Representatives since 1996, with extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to his district; and

     WHEREAS, driven by an innate desire to improve the lives of the citizens of House District 19, which includes Itawamba, Lee and Tishomingo Counties, Representative Franks began serving as a legislator shortly after graduating from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor of arts degree in political science; and

     WHEREAS, as a passionate champion for the rights of Mississippi citizens, he earned his juris doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in 2000 while serving as a legislator, and has used his law degree to improve the lives of Mississippians in many ways; and

     WHEREAS, he is not only a legislator and lawyer, but an owner of North Mississippi Horticultural Services; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Franks' passion for people, astute leadership skills and intelligence have been vital assets while serving as Chairman of the Conservation and Water Resources Committee, and as a member of the Ways and Means, Judiciary A, House Management, Medical Malpractice Insurance, Public Health and Human Services, State Library and Tourism Committees; and

     WHEREAS, during his legislative tenure, he has championed many issues, including fully funding K-12 public education, protecting individual property rights, protecting the environment and the effective use of alternative fuels; and

     WHEREAS, he is lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his beautiful wife, Alisa, and their two children, Jase and Nicholas; and

     WHEREAS, as a man of faith who strives to live the word of God, he is an active member of the Tupelo Church of God; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize passionate advocates for the rights of Mississippians, such as one of our own legislators:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative James "Jamie" R. Franks, Jr., for his dedicated service as a member of the House of Representatives and congratulate him upon his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative James R. Franks, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
