House Resolution 119

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE LEE JARRELL DAVIS FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, after 16 years of dedicated service to the citizens of House District 102, which includes parts of Forrest and Lamar Counties, Representative Lee Jarrell Davis, a distinguished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, has announced his intention to retire from the Legislature and seek elected office at the local level; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Davis, a native of Seminary, Mississippi, born September 17, 1941, graduated from Seminary High School and matriculated at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration and personnel management, and served four years in the United States Air Force Security Service Division, two years of which he was stationed in Japan and one year in Taiwan; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Davis is married to the former Judy Pace, a loving and supportive wife, and from the union of their marriage they have been blessed with two beautiful and talented daughters, Kimberly and Traci, both of whom are nurse practitioners; and

     WHEREAS, as owner and operator of an advertising specialty business for over 26 years, Representative Davis' business acumen has proven invaluable in his service as a legislator, providing him with the wisdom and experience necessary to serve the House as Chairman of the Committee to Investigate State Offices and as a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Banking and Financial Services Committee, the Hurricane Recovery Committee, the Municipalities Committee, the Rules Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Universities and Colleges Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Davis, in addition to his public service as a member of the House of Representatives, as Vice

Chairman of the Republican Caucus, as Vice President of the Republican Elected Officials Association and as a member of the Conservative Coalition, has also contributed his time, energy and leadership skills to numerous community, civic and religious organizations, including membership in the Hattiesburg Area Development Partnership, the University Civitan Club, the Elks Lodge, the USM Alumni Association, the USM Foundation and Heritage United Methodist Church, and he has been honored for his outstanding commitment and support of his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, by being inducted into the USM Alumni Hall of Fame in 2004; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Davis' affable, gregarious and congenial personality has complemented his leadership qualities and has had a positive influence on all of those who have had the pleasure of working with this greatly respected member of the House:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Lee Jarrell Davis for his many years of dedicated and distinguished service to the citizens of House District 102 and the State of Mississippi and extend congratulations and best wishes to him on the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Lee Jarrell Davis and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
