House Resolution 118

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BIGGERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL LADY LIONS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CASSIE FARRIS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2006-2007 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Biggersville High School Lady Lions Girls Basketball Team experienced a fantastic year of play during the 2006-2007 basketball season, compiling a notable 33-4 record due to their hard work and dedication; and

WHEREAS, the No. 3 seed Lady Lions, whose 26 game winning streak led to the team's establishment of a new school record with 33 wins, were victorious in capturing the Division 1-1A regular season championship, the Division 1-1A Tournament Championship, the Alcorn County Tournament Championship and MHSAA Scholar Athlete Team; and

WHEREAS, many honors have been bestowed upon individual team members for their exceptional display of athleticism and sportsmanship, including: the naming of seniors Echarial Gaines and Anna McNair to the 2007 All-Division 1st Team, Alcorn County 1st Team and the Alcorn County Tournament Team; the selection of junior Yalonda Davis to the 2007 All-State Team, Mississippi Association of Coaches North All-Star All-Area Team, All-Division Team Player of the Year, Alcorn County Team Player of the Year and Alcorn County Tournament Most Valuable Player; and the naming of junior Sascha Stafford to the All-Division Team (honorable mention) and Alcorn County Team; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Lady Lions are: Echarial Gaines, Anna McNair, Yalonda Davis, Sascha Stafford, Nikisha Strickland, Chyritha Owens, Brooke Norvell, Porche Gaines, Alison Wigington, Lauren Ross, Stephanie Hastings and Meghan McGee; managers, Audrianna Green and Erica Basden; videographer, Ray Williams; and bookkeepers, Becky Brawner, Carrie Crum and Cathy McGee; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Lions were superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Cassie Farris and Assistant Coach Sharon Green, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Farris has brought additional honor to herself, her team and Biggersville High School upon being selected Division Coach of the Year and Alcorn County Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Biggersville High School Lady Lions have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players, Coach Farris and Coach Green, and bring great honor to Biggersville High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the special accomplishments of athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Biggersville High School Lady Lions Basketball Team and Head Coach Cassie Farris for their outstanding 2006-2007 season and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Cassie Farris, Assistant Coach Sharon Green, the Principal of Biggersville High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
