House Resolution 96

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE, LEGACY AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF MR. JUSTIN HILLMAN CARDNEAUX AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, the world lost an unsung hero on December 10, 2006, when Mr. Justin Hillman Cardneaux of Natchez, Mississippi, lost his life in an airplane crash near Waco, Texas, due to poor weather conditions; and

WHEREAS, he was an honorable member and volunteer coordinator of Angel Flight of Georgia, a nonprofit organization that relies solely on contributions and volunteer pilots to help those in emergency situations; and

WHEREAS, driven by a kind heart and desire to help others, Mr. Cardneaux was one of the organization's best volunteer pilots with rescue missions averaging eight to 12 per year to help those who were in financial and medical need of potential life-saving treatments; and

WHEREAS, his piloting skills were critically useful during the World Trade Center disaster when the airports closed and he transported blood samples from hospitals all over Mississippi to hospitals in Texas, and he was also a first responder to help fly over 450 relief missions after Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cardneaux was a man of faith, whose love for people was manifested in his great works; and

WHEREAS, to cherish his memory, he leaves his beloved daughter, Catherine; mother, Ella; brothers, Christopher and Adam; and nephews Crowell and Austin; and

WHEREAS, this beloved man will also be remembered by the many he has helped throughout the world, including an active two-year-old named Casey Chaffin, as a newborn with a serious heart defect, was flown by Mr. Cardneaux to a specialized hospital; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding unsung heroes, such as Mr. Cardneaux, who risk their lives to help those in need:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life, legacy and achievements of Mr. Justin Hillman Cardneaux and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Cardneaux and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
