A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE 367TH SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE COMPANY FOOD SERVICE TEAM OF THE MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD UPON BEING NAMED RECIPIENT OF THE PHILIP A. CONNELLY AWARD.

     WHEREAS, on March 31, 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, during the International Food Service Executive Association's (IFSEA) convention, the 367th Support and Maintenance Company Food Service Team of the Mississippi Army National Guard was presented the Philip A. Connelly Award; and

     WHEREAS, the Philip A. Connelly Awards Program for Excellence in Army Food Service, sponsored by IFSEA and the Department of the Army, was established in March 1968 in honor of the late former President of the IFSEA; and

     WHEREAS, on a cold and blustery November 2006 Veterans Day at an operations site in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the 135 members of the 367th Support and Maintenance Company and its Food Service Team, which represent 47 Mississippi communities, were judged and evaluated against six other regional winners from across the United States in the areas of food preparation and quality, food and water safety procedures, use and maintenance of equipment, accounting procedures, handling of stored food, technical knowledge and tactical site and set up; and

     WHEREAS, it was February 20, 2007, when the 367th Support and Maintenance Company Food Service Team, located in Philadelphia and Dekalb, Mississippi, received notice of having been declared the 39th annual national winner of the Philip A. Connelly Awards Program for Excellence in Army Food Service, National Guard Division; and

     WHEREAS, besides just bringing home the silver cup, the 367th, through the process, were challenged in their craft, became more proficient and their recruiting and retention were enhanced by the positive attention to this often overlooked trade of not only preparing Army food, but presenting and serving it with pride in the actual field of military operations; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the outstanding service and accomplishments of our state's National Guard personnel, as evidenced by the success of the 367th Support and Maintenance Company Food Service Team of the Mississippi Army National Guard:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 367th Support and Maintenance Company Food Service Team of the Mississippi Army National Guard upon being named recipient of the Philip A. Connelly Award for Excellence in Army Food Service and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of its future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the 367th Support and Maintenance Company Food Service Team of the Mississippi Army National Guard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
