House Resolution 33

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2006-2007 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT.

WHEREAS, the Tupelo Middle School Lady Wave Basketball Team finished their 2006-2007 season with an impressive record of 12-6, winning the Golden Triangle Athletic Conference Tournament; and

WHEREAS, prior to claiming this year’s title, the Lady Wave had to make an impressive comeback, fighting hard to have a great second half of the season, which included a second place finish in the Lafayette County Tournament; and

WHEREAS, going into the Golden Triangle Athletic Conference Tournament ranked No. 2, the Lady Wave ousted Aberdeen in the finals to lay claim to the coveted title; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wave were superbly coached and inspired by Coach Michelle Sorrell, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wave team has been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, all due in part to each of its members: Jarica Sloan, Emily Coleman, Abria Ruff, Haley Caldwell, Shelli Moore, Elise Friloux, Antionette Riddle, Faith Cook, Daniqua Cornelious, Kam Ruth, Marniqua Sharp, Martha Kate Buskirk, Ly'Tia Coleman and Regina Jones, and managers, Amanda Aldridge and Nico Young; and

WHEREAS, the Tupelo Middle School Lady Wave have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to Tupelo Middle School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when demonstrated by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo Middle School Lady Wave Basketball Team and Coach Michelle Sorrell for their outstanding 2006-2007 season, for winning the Golden Triangle Athletic Conference Tournament and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Tupelo Middle School, Coach Michelle Sorrell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
