House Resolution 29

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RICHTON HIGH SCHOOL BAND FOR RECEIVING A SUPERIOR RATING AT THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE MARCHING FESTIVAL.

     WHEREAS, the Richton High School Band received a superior rating at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Marching Festival on Saturday, October 7, 2006; and

     WHEREAS, the Richton High School Band, also known as the "Pride of Richton" was one of seven Class 2A bands statewide to receive this prestigious honor from the MHSAA; and

     WHEREAS, the "Pride of Richton" was also the only Class 2A band in Region V to receive a superior rating, which speaks volumes of the band's performing abilities; and

     WHEREAS, although the "Pride of Richton" received a superior rating in 1996 in a category, this is the first time since 1979 that the band has received an overall superior rating at the festival; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the "Pride Of Richton" receiving a superior rating, the band was invited to participate in the State Marching Band Championships where the band received an eighth place finish in Class 2A; and

     WHEREAS, the Richton High School Band could not have succeeded without the superior leadership of their band director, Mr. Michael Kebodeaux, who provides quality leadership for all  band members; and

     WHEREAS, the Richton High School Band has developed a superb winning and cooperative spirit and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual band members, Mr. Kebodeaux and Principal Lana McIlwain, and bring great honor to Richton High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Richton High School Band for receiving a superior rating at the MHSAA State Marching Festival and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Richton High School, Band Director Michael Kebodeaux and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
