A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CLAYTON FOSTER, JR., OF GREENWOOD UPON BEING SELECTED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE 2007 MISSISSIPPI LIONS ALL-STATE BAND.

WHEREAS, Clayton Foster, Jr., a senior band member at Greenwood High School, has been selected to be a member of the 2007 Mississippi Lions All-State Band; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band, Clayton and other members will perform at the 90th Annual Lions Club International Convention in Chicago, Illinois, as they compete for a fifth consecutive International Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Lions All-State Band is comprised of top musicians in the state, and has won more international competitions than any other band in the United States and recently reached 24 years as international champs, making history with their fourth consecutive win in 2006; and

WHEREAS, Clayton’s selection marks the first individual from Greenwood to be chosen for membership in the prestigious group since 1980, and he has dedicated many hours of preparation to obtain this momentous honor to represent his city and school; and

WHEREAS, a member of Greenwood High School’s Marching and Symphonic Bands where he serves as captain of the trumpet section and three-year member of the Greenwood Community Band, Clayton’s musical accomplishments include: the Mississippi Bandmasters Association State Band Clinic Gold Band member, I-55 Honor Band Association Symphonic Band member, Mississippi High School Activities Association Superior Soloist, Director’s Choice Outstanding Soloist Award, Greenwood High School Band Letterman, Greenwood Middle School William P. Randle Award Recipient and Most Outstanding Greenwood High School Band Student; and

WHEREAS, Clayton’s selection for membership in the Mississippi Lions All-State Band is an accomplishment worthy of recognition as it bestows great pride upon Greenwood High School and the City of Greenwood; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Clayton Foster, Jr., upon being selected as a member of the 2007 Mississippi Lions All-State Band and express warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Clayton Foster, Jr., Greenwood High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
