A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE LINKS, INCORPORATED, MISSISSIPPI CHAPTERS, FOR THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE AND RECOGNIZING MARCH 20, 2007, AS "LINKS DAY AT THE CAPITOL."

     WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, Mississippi Chapters, are being recognized for their outstanding community service at the Mississippi State Capitol for "Links Day at the Capitol" on March 20, 2007; and

     WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, was founded in 1946 by two forward-thinking women from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Margaret Hawkins and Sarah Scott, who wanted to improve their communities; and

     WHEREAS, since 1946, there have been more than 274 chapters of The Links, Incorporated, established with more than 10,000 women of color who are committed to enhancing the quality of life in African-American communities; and

     WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, Mississippi Chapters, which are not-for-profit organizations, are avid supporters of Health 2010 Measures and Closing the Health Gap in access and education; and

     WHEREAS, the focus of "The Links Day at the Capitol" is to discuss the following six areas in Healthy People 2010 that disproportionately impact the health of African Americans:  infant mortality, cancer, HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and the lack of receiving immunizations; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize organizations such as The Links, Incorporated, Mississippi Chapters, whose collective force brings about positive societal changes in the communities that they serve which in turn positively effects this great state as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize The Links, Incorporated, Mississippi Chapters, for their community service and welcome them to the Mississippi State Capitol during "Links Day at the Capitol" activities.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be made available to The Links, Incorporated, Mississippi Chapters, in the State of Mississippi, including Vicksburg, Columbus-Lowndes, Jackson, LeFluers Bluff and Natchez, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
