House Concurrent Resolution 71

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. LISA COURTNEY FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE PERKINSTON CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS,  Mrs. Lisa Courtney, a resident of Wiggins, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lisa Courtney, a business and office technology instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 23 years and has taught for the past 30 years; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lisa Courtney received her associate of arts degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, her bachelor of science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her master of education from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lisa Courtney serves as the Chairperson of the Perkinston Campus Career and Technical Education department; serves as adviser to Perkinston Campus Phi Beta Lambda; is a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Instructional Affairs Council, Planning Council and Student Advisement System Development Team; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lisa Courtney is a graduate of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Leadership Program and a lifetime member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Alumni Association and Foundation; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lisa Courtney has received many honors including being named the 2004 HEADWAE honoree, the 2003 Mississippi Business Education Association Outstanding Educator of the Year and the 2001 Mississippi Phi Beta Lambda Local Chapter Adviser of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, she is also very active in the community by participating as a member in various organizations such as serving as the secretary of the Stone County Chamber Board, a member and officer of the Mississippi Business Education Association, a member and officer of the Perkinston Campus Faculty Association, a lifetime member, state coordinator and officer of the Foundation Board of Directors of the Mississippi Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Mrs. Lisa Courtney, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Lisa Courtney for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Lisa Courtney and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
