House Concurrent Resolution 58

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. WILLIAM GEISSLER, PROFESSOR AND CHIEF ARTHROSCOPIC SURGEON OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL CENTER, FOR CREATING THE TURBO PLATE AND THE ACU-LOC TARGETED DISTAL RADIUS SYSTEM WHICH HAVE GAINED WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION.

WHEREAS, Dr. Geissler invented the Turbo Plate, a device that helps to hold a broken collar bone in place due to its sleek S-shaped design; and

WHEREAS, this fabulous invention is designed in three sizes and features tissue-friendly beveled edges and low-profile screws; and

WHEREAS, thousands of Turbo Plates have been implanted with excellent results; and

WHEREAS, the idea for the Turbo Plate came to him two years ago while on an airplane to Portland, Oregon, and was fully developed within 18 months thereafter; and

WHEREAS, the Turbo Plate was introduced for national and international distribution at the end of July 2006; and

WHEREAS, the doctor's worldwide recognition is not limited to the Turbo Plate, because in mid-2004, he invented the ACU-LOC Targeted Distal Radius System to treat wrist fractures; and

WHEREAS, the ACU-LOC Targeted Distal Radius System has enjoyed worldwide distribution for some years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Geissler is professor and chief arthroscopic surgeon and sports medicine doctor at the University Medical Center (UMC), where he has practiced for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Dr. Geissler spent his residency at UMC where his love for the City of Jackson and Rankin County prompted him to stay in the state; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding Mississippi physicians who strive to improve the lives of our citizens and create a legacy of medical excellence in the state and around the world:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. William Geissler, Professor and Chief Arthroscopic Surgeon of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, for creating the Turbo Plate and the ACU-LOC Targeted Distal Radius System and gaining worldwide distribution for both innovative inventions.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. William Geissler, the University of Mississippi Medical Center and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
