A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING SERVICE OF MR. JOHN MCCULLOUCH AS PRESIDENT OF BELLSOUTH MISSISSIPPI AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Mr. John McCullouch, a native of Louisville, Mississippi, is retiring as President of BellSouth Mississippi, after 28 productive years with BellSouth; and

     WHEREAS, an outstanding leader in the telecommunications industry, Mr. McCullouch began his telecommunications career in 1979 as an attorney for South Central Bell, and in 1986, he became the general counsel for BellSouth in Mississippi until being named state president in 2000; and

     WHEREAS, before embarking on his legal career, Mr. McCullouch faithfully served two years in the Army as a personnel specialist assigned to the Pentagon, and then worked as a salesman for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for four years; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. McCullouch, who is a staunch believer in education, received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Mississippi State University in 1971 and received a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Mississippi in 1978; and 

     WHEREAS, known for his giving spirit and economic aptitude, Mr. McCullouch serves on several boards of directors, some of which include the Mississippi Economic Council, the Mississippi World Trade Center and the Mississippi Partnership for Economic Development, presently serving as vice chairman; and

     WHEREAS, as a testament of his dedication to economic development efforts, Mr. McCullouch was selected as an inductee to the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame in 2005; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. McCullouch, upon retirement, will serve as Chairman of the Board for TelecomPioneers, which is a volunteer organization that includes 620,000 current and retired telecommunications employees in the United States and Canada; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. McCullouch has been supported by his lovely wife, Shelia; their three children, Brent, a Major in the Mississippi National Guard who serves as a Military Intelligence Officer; Brad, an Assistant District Attorney for the Fourth Circuit Court District; and Laci, a student at the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend an outstanding individual such as Mr. John McCullouch who has been a trailblazer for the State of Mississippi in not only the telecommunications industry but also in the areas of civic and community activities:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. John McCullouch for his outstanding leadership as President of BellSouth Mississippi and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. John McCullouch and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
