House Bill 1127

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH TO CONTRACT WITH A SERVICE PROVIDER FOR LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT SERVICES FOR PERSONS OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Department of Mental Health is authorized to contract with a service provider who treats both men and women over the age of 18 and provides long-term residential substance abuse treatment services for up to twenty-four (24) months plus additional residential aftercare services that are not to exceed six (6) months.  Any participant in the residential substance abuse treatment services must meet admission standards that shall be formulated by the providers of the residential substance abuse treatment services.

     The appropriations for the services provided in this section are not to exceed Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) per year per participant.  It is the intent of this act that the participant shall participate in the work therapy component of the provider's residential treatment services.  Total appropriations for residential substance abuse treatment services that shall be provided for services shall not exceed Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00).

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
