House Bill 1055

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE CLEANING OF FLOORS OF EATING ESTABLISHMENTS WHILE CUSTOMERS ARE EATING FOOD ON THE PREMISES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  As used in this section, the term "eating establishment" means a place that is used and kept open for the serving of food or meals to customers for compensation.

     (2)  It shall be unlawful to vacuum, sweep, or clean in any other manner, the floors of an eating establishment while customers are eating food on the premises of the eating establishment.

     (3)  Any person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
