AN ACT TO REQUIRE EACH ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL TO ANNUALLY REPORT INFORMATION ABOUT HOSPITAL-ACQUIRED INFECTIONS TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; TO PROVIDE THAT THE SPECIFIC INFORMATION TO BE REPORTED SHALL BE PRESCRIBED BY REGULATIONS OF THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH; TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT TO COMPILE THE DATA ON HOSPITAL INFECTION NUMBERS AND RATES FOR EACH HOSPITAL AND MAKE THAT INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Each acute care hospital licensed in Mississippi shall annually report information about hospital-acquired infections to the State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network.  The hospitals required to report, the specific infections to be reported, and patient populations to be included shall be prescribed by regulations of the State Board of Health.  The department shall compile the data on hospital infection numbers and rates for each hospital and shall make that information available to the public.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
