House Bill 198

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT COURT RULES SHALL BE GOVERNED BY STATUTE; TO PROVIDE THAT THE COURTS MAY ADOPT RULES NOT INCONSISTENT WITH STATUTORY LAW; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The rules of practice and procedure in the courts of this state shall be governed by statute; however, the courts may adopt such rules of practice and procedure not inconsistent with statutory law.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
