AN ACT TO PROHIBIT JUDGES FROM RESTRICTING OR ATTEMPTING TO RESTRICT THE EXERCISE OF FREE SPEECH; TO PROVIDE FINES FOR VIOLATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  It is unlawful for a judge of any court of this state to restrict or attempt to restrict the exercise of free speech as guaranteed by the United States Constitution.  Any judge who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined an amount not to exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
