House Bill 150

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS TO ACQUIRE THE JACINTO COURTHOUSE IN ALCORN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Division of Parks and Recreation, of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, may establish, maintain and operate as a part of the state park system the Jacinto Courthouse and any property appurtenant to it which is owned by the Jacinto Foundation, Inc., in Alcorn County, Mississippi, upon the conveyance of that property to the state by the Jacinto Foundation, Inc., a voluntary, nonprofit corporation whose charter of incorporation is recorded in the Records of Incorporations in the Office of the Secretary of State in photostat book 154, pages 571-576.  The property conveyance shall be on such terms as the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Jacinto Foundation, Inc., may agree.

     Tishomingo County, having comprised more than nine hundred twenty-three thousand (923,000) acres until 1870, when it was divided into the present-day entities of Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo Counties, the Boards of Supervisors of Alcorn, Tishomingo and Prentiss Counties may levy ad valorem taxes authorized by law for the operation and maintenance of the courthouse and may pay tax proceeds to the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to help defray the costs of operating and maintaining the courthouse.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
