AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT STATE LAW REGULATING THE USE OF CELLULAR PHONES IN AUTOMOBILES PREEMPTS ANY LOCAL ORDINANCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  State law shall occupy and preempt the entire field of legislation in this state relating in any way to inattentive driving and cellular phone usage in automobiles to the complete exclusion of any order, ordinance or regulation by any municipality or other political subdivision of this state.  Any existing or future orders, ordinances or regulations in this field by any municipality or other political subdivision of this state are null and void.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
