Senate Resolution 29

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND HUMANITARIAN SERVICE OF MOTHER RUBY JEAN MCCOY BUTLER OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Mother Ruby Jean McCoy Butler, wife of Superintendent Marcus Lee Butler, Church of God In Christ, departed this earthly life and was promoted to Glory on February 22, 2006; and

     WHEREAS, Ruby Jean McCoy Butler, was the fourth child of five children, born on March 9, 1932, to the union of the late Mr. Robert and Mrs. Beadie McCoy in Scott County, Morton, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, she has worked willingly with her hands, as a retired teacher of the Jackson Public Schools; State President of the First Southern Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Intercessory Prayer Auxiliary; First Lady of the Amazing Institutional and Greater Sweet Beulah Church of God in Christ, and District #11.  She was founder of the Amazing 24-hour Intercessory Prayer Warriors Ministry, Tele-Prayer Ministry, Ministers' Wives Alliance, and Cofounder of the Amazing Christian Academy; and

     WHEREAS, this virtuous woman graduated from Lanier High School, Jackson State University, and the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana; and

     WHEREAS, her children are:  daughters, Marquise B. Ezell of Jackson, Mississippi, and Peggye B. Keeling (Gregory), of Baltimore, Maryland; and son, Marshall S. Butler (Edith) of Jackson, Mississippi; her sisters are:  Barbara McKinnon (Charles), of Jackson, Mississippi, and Ernestine Wallace (Bobby) of Boston, Massachusetts; her two brothers are:  Troy (Sarah) and Will (Jennie) McCoy, both of whom preceded her in death.  Through them she embraced nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.  Also, solemnly celebrating her home-going are the church families she loved and adored, neighbors and friends; and

     WHEREAS, she was the heart of her husband, Superintendent Marcus Lee Butler.  As his companion, in all manner of life, she exhibited a character of caring, commitment, indomitable will, an infallible intellect and unfailing faithfulness:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and humanitarian service of Mother Ruby Jean McCoy Butler of Jackson, Mississippi, and express to her surviving family the sympathy of the Senate on her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mrs. Butler's surviving family and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
