Senate Concurrent Resolution 641

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO DESIGNATE MAY 7-13, 2006, AS "GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WEEK" IN MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, the people of Mississippi value hard work and support the right of individuals to provide for themselves and their families; and

     WHEREAS, some members of our communities require additional education, training and support to aid them in reaching the goal of self-sufficiency; and

     WHEREAS, among those people most in need of career training services are those whose job options are limited due to illiteracy, criminal history or lack of work experience, and those with mental, emotional and physical disabilities; and

     WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries is North America's leading nonprofit provider of career services and is the world's largest private-sector employer of people with disabilities; and

     WHEREAS, disadvantaged citizens have received vocational evaluations, job skills training, job-seeking services, placement assistance or employment through Goodwill Industries of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the investment made by Mississippi in Goodwill Industries has paid off in meaningful work and jobs for our fellow citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we hereby designate the week of May 7-13, 2006, as "Goodwill Industries Week" in Mississippi as we honor and commend the employees of Goodwill Industries for their demonstrated ability to maximize an individual's contribution to self, family and community, and urge all citizens to support the efforts of Goodwill Industries.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be forwarded to the Mississippi affiliates of Goodwill Industries and to the Capitol Press Corps.
