Senate Concurrent Resolution 630

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LEGACY OF PUBLIC SERVICE OF DR. RONALD ESTES WHITEHEAD ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF JONES COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald Estes Whitehead has announced his retirement after 36 years of dedicated service to Jones County Junior College, nine of which he served as the fourth President of the institution; and

     WHEREAS, President Whitehead facilitated Jones County Junior College in the continued growth of the Jones County Junior College Foundation and Alumni Association; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald Estes Whitehead has brought $10.5 Million in federal grants to Jones County Junior College; and

     WHEREAS, he has contributed his efforts as a member of numerous professional organizations.  He was honored as one of the Outstanding Educators of America.  He has been a respected member of the Gulf Regional Interstate Intercollegiate Consortium, the State Workforce Advisory Board, and the Mississippi State Accrediting Commission; and

     WHEREAS, his civic contributions to the community and state are a matter of records; Lions Club, the Mississippi Educational Television Authority, Laurel Community Concert Association, the Laurel and Jones County Economic Authority, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, United Givers Fund; and the coach for the local and All-Star Dixie Youth Baseball League; and

     WHEREAS, he has advanced the educational mission of Jones County Junior College through providing workforce training to numerous Mississippians, and supported the philosophy that anyone who wanted to attend college would not be denied an education solely on the basis of financial limitations.  He has been instrumental in providing a means for all dedicated students to realize educational opportunities in our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the legacy of public service of Dr. Ronald Estes Whitehead on the occasion of his retirement as President of Jones County Junior College and we extend the best wishes of the Legislature to him and his family in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Whitehead and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
