Senate Concurrent Resolution 616

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MCADAMS HIGH SCHOOL "BULLDOGS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH CHAD JACKSON FOR WINNING THE CLASS 1A MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Coach Chad Jackson has been coveting his own Gold Ball ever since his legendary father, Wilson Jackson, won his last trophy with the McAdams Bulldogs in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Chad Jackson's long wait is over.  He picked up his own Boys State Tournament trophy Friday, March 11, 2006, as his Bulldogs ended that 22-year drought and delivered a State Championship to Attala County; and

WHEREAS, Senior Forward Clyde Moore scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as McAdams rallied past Ingomar 61-50 for the Class 1A State Title before an estimated 1,500 at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, Junior Guard John Veasley jump-started the Bulldogs off the bench in the championship game.  He nailed consecutive 3-pointers, giving McAdams a 41-36 lead with 7 minutes and 44 seconds remaining.  With Moore adding 10 points in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs never trailed again; and

WHEREAS, McAdams, No. 4 in The Clarion-Ledger 1A rankings, finished 31-6 and claimed its third state crown; and

WHEREAS, the following team members earned individual honors:  Clyde Moore, MVP State Championship Game, All-State Tournament Team and All-State; Victor Anderson and Thaddus Wilson, All-State Tournament Team and All-State; and

WHEREAS, Jackson has never minded being in the considerable shadow of his dad, Wilson Jackson, who won 700-plus games in 36 seasons, including two state titles in 33 years at McAdams.  Now, Chad Jackson, who succeeded his father in 2003, has made a name for himself in coaching circles; and

WHEREAS, The Bulldogs won the Region 5, District 4-1A Divisional and the South Half Championship on their way to the State Championship, and the roster of the team is as follows:  Dynatious Latiker, Lykendrick Malone, Victor Anderson, Thaddus Wilson, Clyde Moore, John Veasley, Terrance Griffin, Jawaun Phillips, Kegan Simmons, Earnest Brown, Max Winters, Corey Harris, Dertrick Brown and Lecedric Greer; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishment of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the McAdams High School "Bulldogs" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Chad Jackson for their exciting victory to win the Class 1A State Championship and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature in their future athletic and academic successes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Bulldogs and Coach Jackson, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
