Senate Concurrent Resolution 591

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL "LADY WAVE" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH SHELLEY MILLER FOR THEIR THIRD MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR YEARS.

     WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School "Lady Wave" Girls Soccer Team put together four playoff wins against the No. 6, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 ranked teams to win the 2005 MHSAA Class 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this is the Lady Wave's third Class 5A State Championship in four years (2003, 2004 and 2006), a string which began when this year's six seniors on the team were freshmen; and

     WHEREAS, Seniors Lydia Rice, Laura Hamm, Hannah Weatherly, Anna Merritt Roberts, Molly Lincoln and Ivy Davis have mostly played together since they were seven or eight years old and finished their prep four-year careers with an impressive 76-7-6 record, which included a 13-1 State Playoff record; and

     WHEREAS, the roster of the Lady Wave Girls Soccer Team is as follows:  Laura Hamm (GK), Francis Bowen (D), Hannah Weatherly (F), Tate Davis (D), Rhea McCord (D/M), Anna Merritt Roberts (M), Molly Lincoln (D/M), Lydia Rice (D/M), Ivy Davis (M), Jana Mason (D/M), Morgan Sullivan (D), Meghan Brown (M/F), Meagan Nichols (GK), Aleigha Bondurant (F), Mallory Britt (F), Lauren Nichols (M), Jessica Miller (F), Allison Poley (M), Carley Marecle (D), Madison Raines (F), Ashley Symes (D/M), Megan DuBois (F), Anna McCoy (D/F) and Bess Ruff (M); Manager:  Jenna Hankins; Coach:  Shelley Miller; Assistant Coach:  Nathan Hall; Developmental Players:  Carleigh Holley (M/F), Alex Miller (F), Sarah Kay Millican (M), Rebekah Rainey (M) and Jessie Reeder (D); and

     WHEREAS, the team was heavily supported by the hometown crowd on and off the field, and it is with great pride that we again salute the championship season of this team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School "Lady Wave" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Shelley Miller for their third MHSAA Class 5A State Championship in four years and we wish them continued success in their quest for a 4th State Title and in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Principal of Tupelo High School and Coach Shelley Miller for the "Lady Wave" and be made available to the Tupelo Daily Journal, and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
