AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LOCATE A COUNTY JAIL ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT IF THE PROPOSED LOCATION OF A COUNTY JAIL IS WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF A MUNICIPALITY, A COUNTY JAIL MAY NOT BE LOCATED IN SUCH MUNICIPALITY WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE MUNICIPALITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Board of Supervisors of Jackson County, Mississippi, is authorized and empowered, in its discretion, to locate a county jail anywhere in the county; however, if the proposed location of a county jail is within the corporate limits of a municipality, a county jail may not be located in such municipality without the approval of the governing authorities of the municipality.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
