AN ACT TO ADOPT "MISS THE MISSISSIPPI AND YOU" BY JIMMY RODGERS AS THE OFFICIAL STATE COUNTRY MUSIC SONG AND "CROSSROADS" BY ROBERT JOHNSON AS THE OFFICIAL STATE BLUES SONG; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The lyrics and music in the song entitled "Miss the Mississippi and You" by Jimmy Rodgers (the Father of Country Music) is hereby designated as the official Country Music Song of the State of Mississippi.

     (2)  The lyrics and music in the song entitled "Crossroads" by early bluesman Robert Johnson (who sold his soul to the devil to play the Blues) is hereby designated as the official Blues Song of the State of Mississippi.

     (3)  The Division of Tourism of the Mississippi Development Authority, all other agencies of the state and all persons, firms or organizations interested in promoting the welfare of the State of Mississippi are specifically authorized and empowered to make use of the official Country Music Song and the official Blues Song in promoting and advancing the State of Mississippi and its citizens.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
