AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF STATE GENERAL FUNDS TO JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY TO DEFRAY THE EXPENSE OF AN INSTALLMENT OF THE FIVE-YEAR FACULTY EQUITY PLAN, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to Jackson State University for the purpose of defraying the expenses of an installment of the five-year faculty equity plan, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007......................$500,000.00.

     SECTION 2.  It is the intention of the Legislature that Jackson State University expend the funds appropriated in Section 1 to bring professors and associate professors in line with the faculty salaries at peer institutions in the state, which at present is an average gap of Twelve Thousand Dollars ($12,000.00).

     SECTION 3.  The money herein appropriated shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the proper fund or funds as set forth in this act, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers, in the manner provided by law.

     SECTION 4.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
