AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY TO APPLY TO THE U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR THE DESIGNATION OF THE WATERS OF THE MISSISSIPPI SOUND AS A NO-DISCHARGE ZONE FOR VESSEL SEWAGE UNDER THE CLEAN WATER ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is directed to make application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the agency to designate the waters of the Mississippi Sound as a no-discharge zone (NDZ) for vessel sewage as provided under Section 312 of the Clean Water Act.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
