AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT FROM JULY 1, 2005, THROUGH JUNE 30, 2007, THE SALARY OF ANY APPOINTED STATE OFFICIAL OR EMPLOYEE ESTABLISHED IN SECTION 25-3-33, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, AS IT EXISTED ON JUNE 30, 2003, SHALL BE REDUCED TO THE LEVEL SPECIFIED BY THE STATE PERSONNEL BOARD IN THE VARIABLE COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FISCAL YEAR 2004, REGARDLESS OF THE CURRENT TITLE OF, OR POSITION HELD BY, THOSE STATE OFFICIALS OR EMPLOYEES; TO AUTHORIZE THE STATE PERSONNEL BOARD TO TAKE SUCH ACTIONS AS NECESSARY TO REDUCE THE SALARIES OF ANY EMPLOYEE AFFECTED BY THE REDUCTION IN THE SALARY OF SUCH EXECUTIVE HEAD OF THE STATE AGENCY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  From and after July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2007, the salary of any appointed state official or employee established in Section 25-3-33, Mississippi Code of 1972, as it existed on June 30, 2003, shall be reduced to the level specified by the State Personnel Board in the Variable Compensation Plan for Fiscal Year 2004, regardless of the current title of, or position held by, those state officials or employees.  The State Personnel Board shall take such actions as necessary to reduce the salary of any employee affected by the reduction in the salary of the executive head of the state agency in which he is employed in order to comply with Section 25-3-39(2), Mississippi Code of 1972.  SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
