A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. CORINE REAVES ROSS ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Corine Reaves Ross, born on May 15, 1906, in the College Hill Community of Lafayette County, Mississippi, will soon celebrate the wonderful milestone occasion of her 100th birthday; and

     WHEREAS, the oldest of 13 children, Mrs. Ross, when she was a child, was responsible for helping her mother with meal preparation and making sure that all of her younger siblings' needs were met, which demonstrated her responsible and caring nature; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross married Mr. Davis S. Ross on October 2, 1930, and from this holy union four beautiful children, two daughters and two sons, were born; and

     WHEREAS, as a pillar of the Oxford community, Mrs. Ross made various contributions to Oxford which included working diligently on election days as well as in various other civic events; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross, who is still mobile and lives in the treasured family home she has lived in since 1961, is an active and faithful member of the Oxford Church of Christ, where she has belonged for many years; and

     WHEREAS, a self-taught tatter, Mrs. Ross still enjoys the art of tatting, and as a testament of her giving nature, she continues to give gifts of tatting to newlyweds and graduates at her church; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross, trusted and loved throughout the community, helped baby-sit and rear many children in the Oxford area until she was well into her eighties; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross continues to be lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her four children, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her remaining brother and two sisters; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the life and contributions of citizens such as Mrs. Corine Reaves Ross, whose love and devotion to her family and the Oxford Community truly blesses all those she encounters:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and celebrate the life of Mrs. Corine Reaves Ross on the occasion of her 100th birthday on May 15, 2006, and extend heartiest wishes for many more years of good health, peace and joy.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Corine Reaves Ross and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
