House Resolution 118

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SERGEANT 1ST CLASS CHRISTOPHER L. ROBINSON AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Sergeant 1st Class Christopher L. Robinson, of Brandon, Mississippi, departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 25, 2006, while serving the United States in furtherance of "Operation Enduring Freedom," causing great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, a Special Forces Communications Sergeant assigned to 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne) headquartered in Elliott, Mississippi, Sergeant Robinson was a 19-year veteran of the United States Army, having enlisted in 1987; and

     WHEREAS, known for his valued work ethic, Sergeant Robinson  went above and beyond the call of duty, served his entire career with the 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), deploying to locations within Argentina, South America, Kosovo and Afghanistan; and

     WHEREAS, his zeal for his job was well documented and his concern for the war on drugs as evidenced by his membership in the Mississippi National Guard Counter Drug Task Force from 1992 through 2005 and his serving as Jackson Operations Ground Team Leader Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge; and

     WHEREAS, a fun-loving, free-spirited and independent-minded individual, Sergeant Robinson's military education includes courses in primary leadership, Spanish language, basic and advanced noncommissioned officer courses, Spanish jumpmaster, military free fall and numerous tactical weapons courses; and

     WHEREAS, highly decorated with more than 23 awards and recognitions such as the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal, Sergeant Robinson will be remembered most for his positive and upbeat attitude shared in quiet conversation and tender time spent with family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, Sergeant Robinson will be sorely missed by those who experienced the depth of his love, commitment and compassion for life and pursuit of freedom for all, but the legacy of his memory will forever be etched in the hearts and memories of his survivors, including:  his wife, Tamara Robinson; children, Savannah and Patrick; parents, George and Mary Robinson; sister, Denise Schimmel; three nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence in such outstanding Mississippians as evidenced by the life and merits of Sergeant Robinson, whose gift to this state and nation was the ultimate sacrifice of life in order that others may have the opportunity to experience a life of freedom, peace and prosperity that we as citizens of the Great State of Mississippi and these United States of America are privileged to share daily:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life, services and accomplishments of Sergeant 1st Class Christopher L. Robinson and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Sergeant Robinson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
