House Resolution 61

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. PATRICIA ZUBER UPON HER RETIREMENT AFTER 43 YEARS OF DEDICATED AND COMMITTED SERVICE TO THE NURSING PROFESSION.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Patricia Zuber of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, an infection control nurse at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi, will retire on July 31, 2006, after 43 years of dedicated and committed service to the health care profession; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Zuber, who earned her RN degree from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans in 1963, furthered her medical academic pursuits by obtaining a BSN degree at the University of Mobile in 1997; and

     WHEREAS, before assuming her present duties at the VA Medical Center in Biloxi, Mrs. Zuber practiced her noble, merciful and often life-giving profession at several medical facilities, including serving as assistant head nurse and head nurse for the medical/surgical units at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana, at Howard Memorial Hospital in Biloxi, at Mandeville State Psychiatric Hospital in Mandeville, Louisiana, and has also worked in the Infection Control Unit, in the Employee Health Unit and as Diagnostic Related Group Coordinator at Biloxi Regional Hospital; and

     WHEREAS, Nurse Zuber, who is licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Nursing, is certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., and who holds professional membership in the National Association of Infection Control Practitioners and the Southeast Mississippi Chapter 45 for Professional Infection Control Epidemiology, has given selflessly of her time, energy, skill and knowledge to improve the health care profession by serving on a number of professional committees, including the Environmental and Infection Control Center Safety Committee, the Nursing Clinical Practice Board and the Commodity Standards Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Zuber has participated in and contributed significantly to many noteworthy research projects, including the VA Dimensions of NSG Research in the Next Millennium, the VA Seventh Annual Joint Research Conference and the VA Eighth Annual Joint Research Conference "In Search of Excellence"; and

     WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments, Mrs. Zuber was the recipient of the Secretary's Award for Excellence in Nursing for 1999 and was nominated for that award again in 2002:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That it is with great pride, respect and admiration that we recognize, honor and congratulate the long and successful career of Mrs. Patricia Zuber, the mother of our distinguished colleague, Representative Hank Zuber, and extend our sincere appreciation upon her retirement for her many years of dedicated and committed service to the nursing profession, and we offer our best wishes in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Zuber and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
