House Resolution 33

A RESOLUTION ENDORSING ADOPTION OF A WORKER'S BILL OF RIGHTS.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives is aware of the need for improved working conditions in Mississippi's poultry processing plants; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives seeks to find a unique opportunity for Mississippi's industries and government to mutually endorse a Worker's Bill of Rights to include the following rights:  to organize, to a safe workplace, to work in adequate facilities and the opportunity to utilize them, to adequate equipment, to understand information provided, to existing state and federal benefits and rights, the right to be free from discrimination, to continuing training including supervisor training, to compensation for work performed, to seek state help; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives believes voluntary industry cooperation can reduce injuries and fatalities and result in reductions in worker compensation costs and improved worker morale; and

     WHEREAS, the House of Representatives appreciates that voluntary industry cooperation will significantly reduce the number of hazards found within the industry; and

     WHEREAS, the goal of the Mississippi House of Representatives  is to assure Mississippi workers of the safest and healthiest workplace possible:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi hereby urges Mississippi's businesses and industries to adopt and implement this Bill of Rights for Mississippi's workers. 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
