A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL LADY WAVE SOCCER TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Girls Soccer Team, the Lady Wave, finished the 2005-2006 season with its first undefeated season in the school's history and by winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship which is Tupelo's third state championship in four years; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wave won its third state championship in a 1-0 sudden death victory when midfielder and senior team member Lydia Rice scored with a winning kick; and

     WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Girls Soccer Team is composed of committed team members which include the following seniors who had an impressive prep career record of 76-7-6:  Laura Hamm, Ivy Davis, Molly Lincoln, Lydia Rice, Anna Merritt Roberts and Hannah Weatherly; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wave has been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Shelley Miller who has broadened the soccer team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wave has been supported in its athletic endeavors and can attribute much of its success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School Lady Wave Soccer Team for its record-making 2005-2006 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Tupelo High School, Head Coach Shelley Miller and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
