House Resolution 22

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SOCIETY, DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH STATE CONFERENCE.

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, February 15 through Saturday, February 18, 2006, the Mississippi State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its 100th state conference in the City of Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Society, was organized on May 5, 1896, in Natchez, Mississippi, with 12 members, and membership today stands at 4,250 members; and

WHEREAS, in 1904, Mrs. Egbert Jones, State Vice Regent, attended the Continental Congress in Washington, D.C., returning home with the idea of the importance of holding state conferences within the state; and

WHEREAS, consequently, the first state conference was held March 12-14, 1905, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, only to have to be cancelled in 1906 for various reasons and reorganized on March 22, 1907, at Blue Mountain College; and

WHEREAS, a national society, Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit organization with over 166,000 members worldwide, with three objectives: historical preservation, education and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the contributions of such a historically relevant organization as the Daughters of the American Revolution:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution upon the occasion of its 100th State Conference, held in Jackson, Mississippi, on February 15-18, 2006, and extend our wishes for continued success in all its future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the State Regent of the Mississippi State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
