A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL LADY ARROWS BASKETBALL TEAM, HEAD COACH FELICIA LOFTON AND ASSISTANT COACH AMANDA HATCH FOR THEIR PHENOMENAL 2005-2006 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Clinton High School Lady Arrows Basketball Team finished the 2005-2006 season with a remarkable record of 32 wins and four losses; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the regular season and playoffs, the Lady Arrows fought and defeated many well-trained teams, and captured the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, undefeated in playoffs with five wins and zero  losses, the 2005-2006 Lady Arrows accomplishments also include having won the North State Championship, dominating Moss Point with a 73-42 victory in the semifinals of the State Tournament before beating Meridian 53-44 in the finals of the 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their dedicated, superior play and hard work this season, including the selection of Maranda Anderson and Katorra Lewis as Dandy Dozen Players; the naming of Sheena Johnson, Ryan Herd and Katorra Lewis to the All-Tournament Team; the selection of Sheena Johnson and Katorra Lewis to the All-District Team; the naming of Katorra Lewis to the Mississippi All-Star Team; and the naming of Ashley Daniels to the North/South All-Star Team; and

     WHEREAS, team members include Seniors Maranda Anderson, Ashley Barksdale, Ryan Herd, Adrienne Hulitt, Sheena Johnson, Katorra Lewis and Candace Murphy, Juniors Roxanna Bayne, Courtney Brashier, Ashley Daniels, Latoya Day, Jasmine Mitchell and Taylor West, Sophomores Lindsey Bishop, Kortney Bolton, Sasha Goodlett, and Gabrielle Woods; and

     WHEREAS, the team has been supported by its managers, Cortina Durant, Tamara Hughes, Monica McDonald, Akida McKinley and Jasmine Rouser; and

     WHEREAS, the Arrows have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Felicia Lofton and Assistant Coach Amanda Hatch who have broadened the Arrows' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Arrows have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, the Arrows have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Clinton High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Clinton High School Lady Arrows Basketball Team, Head Coach Felicia Lofton and Assistant Coach Amanda Hatch for their phenomenal 2005-2006 season and for winning the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Clinton High School, Head Coach Felicia Lofton, Assistant Coach Amanda Hatch and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
