A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI, INC., FOR ITS DILIGENCE, COMMITMENT AND SUCCESS IN RESTORING POWER TO WESTERN MISSISSIPPI AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA.

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, Inc., demonstrated untiring commitment, diligence and service to its customer base, as well as the state as a whole, by restoring power in an efficient and prompt manner after Hurricane Katrina; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, Inc., which is led by its dedicated President and Chief Executive Officer, Carolyn C. Shanks, faced the daunting task of restoring electricity to its 301,000 customers who cover 45 counties in Western Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after Hurricane Katrina devastated Mississippi on August 29, 2005, 74% of Entergy's Mississippi customers were left with no electric service; and 

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, Inc., had 1,500 distribution poles down, 300 miles of conductor down, 121 transmission line sections down and 85 substations out of service; and

     WHEREAS, despite all of the overwhelming challenges Entergy Mississippi, Inc., faced, it took only 11 days after Hurricane Katrina hit the coast for Entergy Mississippi, Inc., to have 100% of its customer base back online; and

     WHEREAS, the incredible feat of restoring power to customers in Mississippi could not have occurred without the employees of Entergy Mississippi, Inc., along with 4,200 outside personnel from 20 states, who helped Entergy Mississippi, Inc., restore power in such an efficient and prompt manner; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence such as exhibited by Entergy Mississippi, Inc., in its excellent work restoring power to the citizens of Mississippi during such a trying and dark time in this great state's history:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Entergy Mississippi, Inc., and its President and CEO, Carolyn C. Shanks, for their tireless efforts in ensuring that power was restored, which in turn helped those citizens in Mississippi, devastated by Hurricane Katrina, to begin the healing process.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Entergy Mississippi, Inc., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
