House Concurrent Resolution 83

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. ADOLPH GAYLOR AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, Mr. Adolph Gaylor was born on March 16, 1924, and departed this life on January 19, 2006; and

WHEREAS, he was the son of the late Samuel O. Gaylor and Irene Gaylor of Jefferson County, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, he was also the devoted husband of the late Jessie Beatrice Bland for 58 years, and a devoted father to five children: Patricia, Adolph, Genoise, Tylan and Tony, born to their loving union; and

WHEREAS, although he accepted Christ at an early age, he was baptized by the late Reverend A.M. Drake and joined the Milford Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the church, he held a number of positions such as, deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and church treasurer; member of the M.B.P.F.B. Society; Milford Brotherhood Club; Deacon Progressive Club; and Clover Hill Masonic Lodge #13; and

WHEREAS, not only was he active in the church, he was active in many organizations throughout the community, including membership in the Natchez Business and Civic League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Secretary of the Port Commission for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, he also made history with the Natchez-Adams County Port Commission when, in 1976, he became the first African American appointee to the commission; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gaylor was an astute businessman when, in 1964, he established Gaylor's Auto Repair Service, and remained a pillar of the business community for over 35 years; and

WHEREAS, he leaves eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends to cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the lives of our state's citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend the life of Mr. Adolph Gaylor and express our sympathy upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Adolph Gaylor and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
