House Concurrent Resolution 78

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WEST POINT HIGH SCHOOL GREEN WAVE FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2005 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the West Point High School Green Wave Football Team had an exceptional 2005 season with an outstanding record of 14-1 and completed the season by capturing the 4A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Green Wave team ranked number six in the Clarion-Ledger Super 10 and number two in 4A before winning the coveted 4A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, West Point High School's football team has been victorious as state champions in years past in the 5A division, and has continued the tradition by being one of the most accomplished football teams in the 4A division; and

WHEREAS, the Green Wave team was superbly coached and inspired by Coach Dennis Allen who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Dennis Allen has brought additional honor to himself and to West Point High School by being selected the MAC 4A Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the overall hard work of the team, several players have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season including the naming of the following players to the 2005 Mississippi Association of Coaches All-State Team: Derrick Boyd, James Ewing, Alex Hill, Eldrick Hogan, Jon Lane, Chris Matthews, Kaleb Rush, Kendrick Rush, Jamar Shelton and Lemarius Witherspoon; and

WHEREAS, the Green Wave team has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to West Point High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when demonstrated by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the West Point High School Green Wave Football Team and Coach Dennis Allen for their outstanding 2005 season, for winning the 4A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to West Point High School, Coach Dennis Allen and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
